DEVELOPMENT ECONOMICS - QSB 4223

Objectives:


  1. To understand the basic principles of economics and it's link to the real world of construction.
  2. To develop an understanding of the whole process of property development. 
  3. To enhance the understanding of the contribution of feasibility study in property development.
  4. To understand the overall mechanism of the finance system in the construction industry.

Overall, in this subject I have learned regarding the basic principles of economics and how the actual economics function in the real construction world. Throughout the process, I am able to understand better regarding the function and importance of property development which has enhance my understanding regarding the subject and how the development economics has contribute to the feasibility study in the property development. Apart from that the clear explanation by the lecturers have help me to gain much insight regarding the overall mechanism of the finance system in the construction sector. 

Besides that, the cash flow assignment that we have conducted has helped me to understand better about the cost that are involved in the construction and what are the important dates and events in the process which will cause the success and failure of the project. 

In this semester of study I am able to learn various skills and knowledge from this subject regarding :

Sample cash flow

  • The calculation of developer's budget and costing such as (i.e total development cost, and gross development process).
  • Specify the requirement and demand in a quality market research
  • Carry out the benefit of cost analysis in the early stages of a project and valuation system to assist in making critical decision in the early stages of feasibility studies.
  • Classify various sources of finance available in the construction sector.
